Work Experience

Southend Theatres offers Work Experience placements for students from Year 10 and above, and for college and university students. We also offer work experience to adults interested in a career change, or looking for more experience in the arts.

What will I do on a placement? Work Experience placements take place within our Community and Education department. If you are interested in performing or being involved in productions, you may be disappointed as a work experience placement with us will not involve that. The work placement will range from office based duties within our department to some practical work assisting with our workshop sessions and the other day-to-day activities within the department.

How long is a placement? Placements usually last 1 - 2 weeks. This can vary according to the nature of the placement.

How to Apply Students should write a letter of application to Emily Malcolm at Southend Theatres, Station Road, Southend-on-Sea, SS0 7RA. Your letter you should explain your reasons for wanting to do the placement; information about the school or college you attend; your interests; and the dates you would like to undertake a placement with us. You should also enclose an up-to-date CV and a stamped addressed envelope with this letter. If dates are available and we can accommodate you on a placement, you will be called to interview.

Work Experience Placements for the 2010/2011 academic year are now full.

For further information about our Work Experience placements, you can contact Emily Malcolm on 01702 390472.
